U.S. Veteran MAYODAN – Reuben Steven Vaden, 88, of 903 West Jefferson Street, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Morehead Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend John Atkins officiating. Interment will follow in Mayodan Municipal Cemetery.

Mr. Vaden was born May 15, 1924, in Rockingham County, to the late Frank Vaden and Ada Turner Vaden. He was a WWII Navy veteran, a self-employed carpenter and was of the Primitive Baptist faith. Reuben worked with his brothers for over 40 years building houses and with his sons at Vaden Roofing for over 20 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Winter Vaden; brothers, Julius, John Daniel, Rufus, Henry, and Woodrow Vaden and sisters, Virginia Flynn and Mary Martin.

Survivors include his sons, Steve Vaden, Jr., and wife Brenda, and Randy Vaden and wife, Janice, all of Mayodan; grandchildren, Meredith Vaden Price and husband, Kevin, and Jennifer Vaden Holt and husband, Harold, and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Price, Brady Price and Natalie Holt.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, June 15, 2012, at Colonial Funeral Home and all other times at the residence.
