MADISON – Johnnie Jerome Joyce, 91, of 6055 NC Highway 772, died Monday, July 16, 2012, at Northern Hospital of Surry County.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Delta United Methodist Church, in Sandy Ridge, with Reverend Jim Prichard officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Joyce was born August 14, 1920, in Henry County, VA, to the late John Walter Joyce and Daisy Dell Vernon Joyce. He was a retired employee of Sears and a faithful member of Delta United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer and usher for many years. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Vera Delphine Carter Joyce; brothers, Charlie, Louis, Harry, Deward, Forrest and Carl Joyce; and sisters, Christine Moore, Estelle Via, Ernestine Wall and Irene Dodson. Survivors include son, Johnnie E. Joyce of Stoneville; daughter, Bonnie J. Young and husband, Revel, of Mt. Airy; grandsons, Paul Young and wife, Sarah, and Derek Young and wife, Colleen; and great-grandsons, William Young, Charles Young, Gabriel Young and Noah Young. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Colonial Funeral Home. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff in Skilled Nursing at Northern Hospital of Surry County and Dr. Roger Kerley for their exceptional care of Mr. Joyce.
