Frances Atkins Martin Obituary (1928 - 2018)

Frances Atkins Martin passed away peacefully on Monday, April 16, 2018, at Hospice of Rockingham County, after several years of failing health. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. A life-long resident of Rockingham County, Mrs. Martin was born on September 14, 1928, to the late James Brantley Atkins and Cora Hodges Atkins. She was employed with the governmental ASC Services as a marketing recorder at tobacco warehouses in Reidsville and Madison. In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her husband H. Roy Martin, Jr.; brothers, Michael, Roy, and J.B. Atkins; and sisters, Ruby Shelton, Nellie Hensdale, and Peggy Atkins. Survivors include her daughter and son, Suzanne M. Joyner (Don), Richard C. Martin; sisters, Doris "Teeny" Atkins, Elizabeth "Libby" Williams (Norman), and Shirley Montgomery; two grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Joyner Kirschner (Ian), of Seattle, Washington, and Andrew "Drew" Logan Joyner, of Cary; and many nieces and nephews. Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, 2150 NC-65, Reidsville, NC 27320.
