Madeline Kitty Knight Obituary (1944 - 2018)

MADISON - Madeline (Kitty, as she was also known to family and close friends) Knight of Madison, NC was born in Worchester, Massachusetts and, after 74 years of selfless dedication to those around her, completed her earthly life journey at home on Monday, September 24, 2018. She, her life, and her legacy will be celebrated with a memorial service at Colonial Funeral Home on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 6 pm. Visitation will commence just prior to the service at 5 pm. As there will be no subsequent graveside service, the family is requesting donations be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375 and the Rockingham County Animal Shelter, 250 Cherokee Camp Rd., Wentworth, NC 27375, in lieu of flowers. Madeline is survived by her husband of almost 53 years, Thomas David; three children, Tammy, Thomas, and Jennifer, a daughter-in-law, Sandy; two grandchildren, Justin and Kasey; her sister, Cynthia (Cindy) and a brother-in-law, Donald. She will also be fondly remembered by her extended Buchanan family members, but most especially by her niece, Debbie and her nephew, Mark. She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Rose Blanche Lavallee; father, Joseph Leo Buchanan; brother, Leo Buchanan, and two sisters, Blanche Vilandre and Mary Ann Morrissey. Madeline believed in the amazing power of a strong family and good values which she instilled deep in her children and grandchildren. In fact, family was so much a part of who she was, she was a registered nurse her entire working life, first serving patients in various hospital settings, but finishing in the area of utilization review serving both patients AND families. She also had a special place in her heart for Gods four-legged creatures, many of which actually found a place in her family over the years. She will be HUGELY missed, but remains MORE THAN HUGELY loved and cherished. Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
