Robert Vernon Black Obituary (1934 - 2020)

STOKESDALE Robert Vernon Black, 86, died on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Moses Cone Hospital. A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at the Ellisboro Baptist Church Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Mr. Black was born in Alleghany County, North Carolina on February 19, 1934 to the late Homer Eugene Black and Roma Elizabeth Faircloth Black. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a faithful member of Ellisboro Baptist Church. Robert enjoyed playing guitar and singing as well as traveling and gardening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Wayburn and Gary Black; son-in-law, Tommy Farrington and sister, Jewell Brooks. Survivors include his beloved wife of sixty and a half years, Connie Huffman Black; daughters, Pamela Black Farrington, Denise Black Tate and Penny Elizabeth Black Robinson (Mike); grandchildren, Lucas Vernon Farrington, Christy Farrington Lewis (Michael), Emily Michelle Tate, Nicholas Stephen Tate, Anna Elizabeth Brim and Katelyn Nicole Brim and sister, Shirley Carleton. Mr. Black will lie in state from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., Friday and 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home. Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
