Synthia Nelson Steele Obituary (1937 - 2021)

Synthia Nelson Steele, 84, of Mayodan, passed away Sunday morning, October 24, 2021, at Cone Health Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, October 27th at Colonial Funeral Home & Chapel in Madison. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1 - 2 PM) in the Chapel and other times at the home of Mitzie Steele, 712 Virginia Street in Mayodan. Burial will follow in the Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. Born September 6, 1937 in Roanoke, VA, Synthia was the daughter of the late Leff C. "Pete" Nelson and Edna Smith Nelson. She was a member of Peters Creek Baptist Church and a retiree of Burlington Industries. As a young woman, Synthia loved playing softball, loved sports and was very competitive. Her greatest treasure was her family whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her husband, R. E. Steele, Jr.; son, Jerry Steele of Mayodan; daughter, Mitzi Steele of Mayodan; four grandchildren, Michael Livengood (Gabrielle), Mitchell Livengood (Kasey), Demetra Woods and Adam Steele; five great-grandchildren, Porter Liven good, Grayson Livengood, Brylee Woods, Brody Woods and Bentley Woods; brother, Dewey Nelson (Linda) of Aarat, VA and two sisters, Judith N. Dodson (Odean) of Sandy Ridge and Rebecca N. Joyce (Oneal) of Mayodan In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Marlie Steele; sister, Barbara Adams and her twin sister, Sylvia Nickelston; along with her brother, N.
