Reverend Curtis Hampton Scotton Obituary (1937 - 2020)

Curtis Hampton Scotton, 83, formerly of Madison, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Moses Cone Hospital. A private graveside service for family will be held at Woodland Cemetery. The funeral Service will be streamed live at 2 p.m. via our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/cfh.madison. He was born on January 15, 1937, in Rockingham County, to the late Coy Hampton Scotton and Annie Landreth Scotton. Curtis graduated from Madison High School in 1955. He was pitcher for the high school baseball team. He also graduated from Piedmont Bible College in Winston-Salem. Curtis received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Sand Hills Baptist Church College. Reverend Scotton was the first pastor of Faith Baptist Church, Stoneville; He pastored the Solid Rock Baptist Church in Eden from 1975 until his retirement in 2005 due to health reasons. He was proprietor of Scotton Shoe Shop from 1959 to 1995, and also worked at the Cobbler Shop in Eden. Curtis loved the Lord and lived what he preached. He was a member of Wayside Baptist Church, Ridgeway, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law Bill Horton. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Eulalia Butler Scotton; sons Brian (Becky), Kevin (Wendy), Ramon (Lynn), daughter Melanie Horton; sister Kay Graham (Glenn); eight grandchildren Leigh Ann Slaughter (Jamie), Kurt Scotton (Katie), Lance Scotton (Ashley), Amy Hobbs (Robert), James Scotton (Hannah), Kyle Scotton (Dara), Alyssa Boles (Brandon), and Erika Horton; eight great-grandchildren Brooke Scotton, Emily Scotton, Jacob Slaughter, Justin Scotton, Breanna Scotton, Luke Hobbs, Isabella and Emerson Scotton, and his furbaby Heidi. Reverend Scotton will lie in state from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Sunday, December 27, 2020 and Monday from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home. Social distancing guidelines will be observed and face coverings are required. Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
