George Michael Lawrence Obituary (1950

GEORGE MICHAEL LAWRENCE STONEVILLE - George Michael Lawrence, 74, passed peacefully Monday, July 21, 2025, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law in Fieldale, VA. Born October 12, 1950, in Henry County, VA to the late Reverend R. T. Lawrence and Doris Martin Lawrence, Mike was a 1969 graduate of Bassett High School. He was a US Army Veteran and honorably served his country in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. Michael was a past employee of American Furniture Company where he developed a love for woodworking. He was a skilled carpenter. He received a BA in Horticulture, and was ordained as a minister in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mike was a member of Christian View Pentecostal Holiness Church where he taught Sunday School. In his younger years, he enjoyed softball and golf. He took great pride in his extensive coin collection. Michael was a fighter. His fortitude and determination braved many health issues. In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his stepmother, Margaret Dalton Lawrence; wife, Carol June Turner Lawrence, and sister, Peggy L. Upchurch. Michael is survived by son, Brad (Nicole) Lawrence, of Fieldale, VA; Traci Lawrence (Javier) Burroughs, of Stoneville, N.C.; grandchildren, Mason, Scarlett and Javi Burroughs; brother, Gerald Lawrence, of Stoneville, N.C. and sisters, Frances Keys, of Salem, VA, and Deborah (Ronnie) Gurganus, of Winterville, N.C.; many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and best bud, his canine pet, Charlie. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:45 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Christian View Pentecostal Holiness Church Multipurpose Building followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held at the Martin Family Cemetery (543 Anglin Mill Rd, Stoneville, N.C.) with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9956. Colonial Funeral Home in Sandy Ridge is serving the family.
